Sessional Lecturer - ARC201H1S - Design Studio II

Course description: 
A studio-based introduction to design with emphasis upon the production of form and space and the formation of landscapes. The course serves as a hands-on exploration of the relationships between material, tectonic, and programmatic organizations in the context of social, technological, and environmental concerns.

Estimated TA support: 60 hours

Estimated course enrolment: 20 per practicum section

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2026 to April 30, 2026

Salary (per half-course, inclusive of vacation): 

Sessional Lecturer I: $ 9,820.70
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $ 10,510.04
Sessional Lecturer II $ 10,510.04 
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $ 10,760.28
Sessional Lecturer III: $ 10,760.28
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $ 11,030.36

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture (or related design discipline) and relevant professional experience in design.

                            

Preferred Qualifications:
We are seeking applicants with a professional degree in architecture (Master’s or Bachelor’s) and a record of teaching architectural design at the undergraduate or graduate level. Demonstrated experience in architectural practice is an asset. Demonstrated design excellence is desired and will be evaluated through consideration of professional experience, design awards (if applicable), and a 1-2 page portfolio.

Description of duties: 

The successful candidate(s) will lead a design studio section under the direction of a course coordinator. Normal duties may include the preparation and delivery of course content in a design studio setting; the development and administration of assignments; providing students with regular feedback on their work in the studio setting; the marking and grading of student work and the submission of grades to appropriate University officials in accordance with policy; the maintenance of reasonable hours of student contact outside of scheduled contact hours; and the supervision of the day-to-day work of any Teaching Assistants assigned to the course. There is no expectation of or requirement for research or administrative service.
